Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy (B.Phil) at HSC
The B.Phil's earliest incarnation was as a University of Oxford pre-doctoral graduate degree. Because of potential confusion between the undergraduate and graduate level B.Phil degrees being offered by various institutions, the graduate degree was re-titled as a Master of Philosophy Degree for all majors except that of Philosophy itself where students can choose from a B.Phil or M. Phil designation. The contemporary Oxford B.Phil. is a two-year graduate program consisting of three taught courses and a research thesis, preparing the graduate for either teaching philosophy at the university level or providing a foundation for doctoral (D.Phil. or Ph.D.) work in philosophy.
