critical thinking. Newman called such an education “a great but ordinary means to a great but ordinary end.” HSC seeks to foster a habit of lifelong learning, allowing students to secure that great but ordinary end of education while deepening their spiritual life.
Through its academic and student life programs, the Holy Spirit community encourages its students to develop certain personal qualities: self-knowledge, hard work, self-acceptance, desire for truth, concern for others, and a quest for justice. Through academic studies and extra-curricular activities, HSC endeavors to develop the sense of community and of responsibility that prepares students for future leadership in building a society that is at once more human and more divine.
Holy Spirit seeks to educate and to form students who, as leaders in professional and civic life, will live by the highest intellectual and ethical standards. In service of this ideal, Holy Spirit endeavors to create an environment in which integrated learning is a shared responsibility, pursued in classroom and laboratory, playing field and theater, residence and chapel. Shared responsibility for the life and governance of the College should lead all its members to make the best of their own talents, to work together, to be sensitive to one another, to serve others, and to seek justice within and beyond the Holy Spirit community.
