Dr. Paul J. Voss,
English Literature
Ph.D.: University of California, Riverside
Paul J. Voss was born and raised in Minnesota. He graduated with honors in 1986 from the University of St. Thomas (St. Paul) with a double major in English Literature and Philosophy. Dr. Voss earned his Ph.D. in English Renaissance Literature from the University of California (Riverside) and was appointed an Assistant Professor at Georgia State University in 1995. Dr. Voss has served as the Provost of Holy Spirit College since 2006.
Dr. Voss, an award-winning teacher, directs study-abroad programs to Italy and England, publishes widely on a range of topics, including Shakespeare, Dante, the history of the book, business ethics, paradigm shifts, the printing press, and the Catholic Church. He frequently appears on radio and television.
Dr. Voss serves on the Board of Directors for Primus Builders and the Sophia Press Institute. He is also a member of the Downtown Atlanta Rotary club.
Dr. Voss and his wife Mary have five children attending Holy Spirit Preparatory School (Joseph, class of 2010, Luke class of 2012, Maria, class of 2014, JohnPaul, class of 2020, and Aquinas, class of 2024). The Voss family lives in suburban Atlanta, and they attend Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Nicolas Chronos, M.D.
President and Chief Executive Officer
Saint Joseph’s Translational Research Institute
Nicolas Chronos, M.D., is president and chief executive officer of Saint Joseph’s Translational Research Institute (SJTRI), where he directs and oversees approximately 60 preclinical trials and 30 clinical trials. He is a practicing interventional cardiologist for The Medical Group of Saint Joseph’s Hospital and is an adjunct professor of medicine at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Chronos’ vision of melding medical research and practice evolved into the Atlanta Cardiovascular Research Institute (ACRI) in 1999. In 2003, ACRI merged with the Saint Joseph’s Health System, part of the Catholic Health East network, becoming SJTRI. In 2008, under Dr. Chronos’ leadership, SJTRI entered into a collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology that aimed to bring new treatments, therapies and products into clinical use more rapidly. The agreement enabled relocation and expansion of the SJTRI research facilities to Technology Enterprise Park (TEP), a new bio-business park adjacent to the Georgia Tech campus, and collaboration between physicians and researchers at Saint Joseph’s Hospital and faculty and students at Georgia Tech.
Dr. Chronos received his cardiology and interventional cardiology training at the Royal Free Hospital School of Medicine and at the Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Institute in London. He was awarded a British Heart Foundation International Fellowship, which provided him with the opportunity to move to the Emory University School of Medicine. It was during this tenure that Dr. Chronos served under the direction of Spencer B. King, III, M.D., and further developed his interventional cardiology and research skills. Dr. Chronos was named director of research at the Andreas Gruentzig Cardiovascular Center at Emory University Hospital in 1997.
Dr. Chronos was the co-national principal investigator on the world’s largest human clinical trial of angiogenesis, the FIRST study, and is highly involved in stem cell and gene therapy research. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians-London, American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association and European Society of Cardiology. He serves on multiple national and international committees and boards including the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers, 95 abstracts, and 17 book chapters.

Jai Pal Singh, Ph.D
Chief Scientific Officer
Saint Joseph’s Translational Research Institute
Jai Pal Singh, Ph.D., joined SJTRI as chief scientific officer in May 2009. Dr. Singh has more than 22 years of experience in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, most recently at Eli Lilly and Company, where he served as head of vascular therapeutics research and research advisor in the Atherosclerosis-Metabolic drug team. Dr. Singh has broad experience in drug discovery on small molecules as well as biomolecules including, protein, antibody and gene therapy. He brings a deep expertise for drug discovery and development in the areas of cardiovascular disease, metabolic disease and complications of diabetes with a major focus on vascular biology and regenerative medicine. Dr. Singh has led multiple cross-functional projects leading to clinical candidates. While at Lilly, he initiated and led the cardiac and peripheral ischemia program. He is widely published with more than 55 publications and 18 U.S. patents and routinely invited to speak at national and international scientific conferences. Dr. Singh completed his undergraduate and master’s degree in science in India with highest honors. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he received a Ph. D. degree in biochemistry. He completed his research fellowship at Harvard University Medical School, Boston. In addition to his scientific leadership, Dr. Singh was an active community leader while living in Indianapolis, serving as the president and chairman of the India Association of Indianapolis, member of the board of directors of the American Red Cross and member of other civic organizations.

Dr. Del Kiernan-Lewis,
Philosophy
Ph.D.: University of Wisconsin
Dr. Kiernan-Lewis teaches Philosophy at Holy Spirit College. He received the M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy with a minor in History of Science from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Georgia. He has two decades of college teaching experience, including positions at UCLA, William and Mary, and Georgia Tech, where he continues to lecture part-time in the College of Architecture. His areas of expertise are philosophy of religion, epistemology and metaphysics. Dr. Kiernan-Lewis has published numerous scholarly articles, including a series of papers on the problem of evil. His special interests include Aquinas, Augustine, the relationship between faith and reason, and the historical and philosophical relations between science and Christian faith. His textbook Learning to Philosophize (Wadsworth, 2001) continues to be used in college classes in the U.S. and Canada.

Mr. Brian Moscona,
Religion
M.ED.: University of Notre Dame
Mr. Brian Moscona was born in New Orleans,
Louisiana and attended high school in Baton Rouge. He then studied
Marketing and Public Policy at the University of Notre Dame in South
Bend, IN. After graduation, Mr. Moscona participated in a two-year
teaching program through Notre Dame called the Alliance for Catholic
Education. In the ACE program he taught fourth grade in Los Angeles, CA
and earned a Masters Degree in education. Mr. Moscona then spent a year
discerning a vocation to religious life with the priests and brothers in
the Congregation of Holy Cross at Notre Dame while also studying
Theology and Philosophy. After leaving the seminary he moved to Atlanta
to teach religion at Holy Spirit Prep. He is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Theology from the University of Notre Dame.

Ms. Jane Sloan,

Jane graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a B.A. in Theology and Philosophy. She earned her M.Ed through Notre Dame's service teaching program, the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE). Jane has lived abroad in Puebla, Mexico and recently completed a thirty day pilgrimage along Spain's Camino de Santiago de Compostela.

Dr. Scott Schreiber,
Classics; Greek, Latin, and Ancient History
Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Chicago
Dr. Schreiber holds B.A. degrees in Religion from Davidson College and in Philosophy from Cambridge University in England. He has M.A.’s in Philosophy from both Cambridge University and the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Chicago. Before embarking on his teaching career, Dr. Schreiber spent four years as an intelligence officer and cryptologist in Europe for the National Security Agency, and five years as a Benedictine monk in New Hampshire. He has taught at St. Anselm College, The Johns Hopkins University, and the University of Chicago. From 1993-2004, Dr. Schreiber was Professor of Philosophy and Director of Classics at St. Norbert College (Wisconsin). In 2004-2006, Dr. Schreiber served as Headmaster of Mount Carmel Academy, an independent classical Catholic K-12 school in Green Bay, WI. Dr. Schreiber’s first love is ancient Greek philosophy, and he has published articles in a wide range of philosophical journals. In 2003, the State University of New York (SUNY) Press published his book: “Aristotle on False Reasoning: Language and the World in the Sophistical Refutations.”

Mr. Tom Curtin,
Performing Arts; Classics
J.D. University of Notre Dame
B.A. with Majors in Music Theory and Philosophy & a Minor in Latin, University of Notre Dame
Mr. Curtin spent the last year in South Bend, IN teaching music and Latin at Marian High School, during which time he completed his J.D. (Juris Doctor) at the University of Notre Dame. Mr. Curtin was blessed also to receive his undergraduate education at Our Lady's University, where he majored in music theory and philosophy, and minored in Latin. Mr. Curtin is an avid composer/arranger both of liturgical music and of musical theatre, having authored many psalm settings and religious songs, and two complete musicals. He enjoys giving piano and voice lessons, playing all sports, reading British novels, and discussing just about anything. Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam.

Dr. Patrick Devine,
Psychology
Ph.D.: Illinois Institute of Technology Biography
Dr. Devine earned his master’s in Counseling Psychology from Georgia State University in 1975 and his PhD in Industrial-Organizational psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology in 1980.. Dr. Devine has served as Interim Chair of the Department of Psychology at Kennesaw State University and RTM Faculty Fellow for Leadership in the Siegel Institute for Leadership, Ethics, and Character. Dr. Devine has nearly 30 years of experience in the fields of human resource development and personnel psychology, including extensive work in equal opportunity employment and diversity practices, employment selection, performance appraisal, executive assessment, assessment centers, problem employee consultation, and motivation and leadership training. Dr. Devine has consulted for organizations such as Motorola, New York Stock Exchange, US Army, IBM, and the DeKalb County Board of Education. In the sport psychology area, he provides performance enhancement and coaching seminars to organizations such as the Atlanta Braves, Montreal Expos, Florida Marlins, Milwaukee Brewers, and Atlanta Falcons. Dr. Devine is involved in a variety of professional organizations and has served three terms as president of the Atlanta Society of Applied Psychology. Dr. Devine was recognized for his dedication and leadership in academic and career advisement by being awarded the Faculty Academic Advisor of the Year Award by the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA). He is a licensed psychologist in the state of Georgia, and his research interests include the areas of academic advising effectiveness and student-athlete success.

Dr. Albert Ahlstrom,
Music Theory
Ph.D.: The Juilliard School
Albert holds the doctorate from the Juilliard School, and he studied composition, organ, and improvisation in France as a Fulbright scholar. Albert has performed, and his compositions have been performed, in concert and on radio across the United States and Europe. He has performed at several major music festivals and conventions, including most notably, a solo concert and an interview at Radio France, Paris, during the American Music Week. He has recorded a CD on the Raven label of the music of Horatio Parker on the historic 1895 Muller and Abel organ at St. Joseph’s Church, Yorkville, New York City, where he was the director of music. Albert is a graduate of Westminster Choir College where he studied voice for four years and sang in choirs with orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and the National Symphony under the direction of many notable conductors including Leonard Bernstein, Bruno Walter, and Seji Ozawa. Albert has won several ASCAP (American Society of Composers and Publishers) awards, and he has composed music for orchestra, chamber groups, voice and electronics. This summer he performed the premiere of his most recent composition for the Southeastern Regional Convention of the American Guild of Organists. Before moving to Atlanta he was on the faculty of Queens College of the City University of New York.

Father Paul Burke,

Father Paul Anthony Burke, Parochial Vicar at Holy Spirit, was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Atlanta on May 24, 1996 by the Most Reverend John F. Donoghue, Archbishop of Atlanta. Born in Galway, Ireland on July 18th, 1970 to the late Michael and Philomena Burke. Father Paul is the youngest of four children including two brothers and one sister.
A graduate of St. Patrick's College, Maynooth, Ireland, Father Burke earned a BA Degree in 1991, Summa Cum Laude, with a double major in Geography and Sociology. He attended Mt. St. Mary's Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He earned a M.Div. degree Cum Laude and a MA degree, Summa Cum Laude specializing in Moral Theology in 1996. He also attended the Pope John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family in Washington, DC, as well as Kennesaw State University, Georgia (Education). Previous assignments were at St. Joseph's, Marietta and St. Catherine of Siena, Kennesaw. He also served as chaplain and teacher at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School in Fayetteville, as well as campus minister at Kennesaw State University.
Father Burke was awarded a JCL degree in 2009 by the School of Canon Law at The Catholic University of America. His thesis focused on Catholic education.
He is also an Adjunct Professor of Theology and Philosophy at Southern Catholic College in Dawsonville and teaches at Holy Spirit College. His academic interests are Catholic Education and the Code of Canon Law, Bioethics, Catholic-Orthodox relations, and the Philosophical and Theological Thought of Pope John Paul II.
His hobbies include travel, classical music, theater and reading.
